Our counselling rooms

Our counselling rooms at Action for Neurodiversity (AfN) are also sensory therapy rooms. They contain a wide variety of soothing sensory therapy equipment, and they also have blackout blinds.

What is special about being seen in Action for Neurodiversity consulting rooms is that the client is given the opportunity to design the room according to their sensory needs at the time.

Perhaps you’ve had  a tough day, where bright lights have bothered you? Not a problem…simply pull down the specially made blackout blinds and there is darkness.

Perhaps you’d like to have the star projector on, or to focus on a moving image on the wall?

Perhaps you’d like to have a weighted blanket on you?

Perhaps you’d like none of the above, and instead be counselled with natural daylight coming through the windows and a regular cushion placed behind your back on one of our comfy armchairs or sofas?

Whatever is going on for you on a sensory level on the day of your consultation, remember that YOU are in charge, and YOU design your counselling space. Your comfort is important to us and our counsellors realise that if sensory sensitivities are catered for, this kind of care aids client comfort, which in turn assists the “opening up” process.

In all our therapeutic spaces you will see and be encouraged to pick up the  ‘fiddle items’ on our coffee tables. The fiddle items mainly consist of small objects that can be manipulated, for example Magnetix or a Rubik’s cube. These can help aid engagement and concentration during the therapeutic process. Additionally, they also remove the need for direct eye contact – which is something our counsellors will never insist you give at AfN.
